We reported back in November that Nokia was launching a competition for developers targeting its Series 60 platform - Nokia invites developers to take on Series 60. Well, the results are in and the winners announced.

Taking the prize in the Productivity category was an entry from a German company called Symbianware. Its Stacker app is compression software that doubles available storage by compressing installed applications. Running in the background, it automatically decompresses an application when it is opened (and compresses it again when it is closed).

In the Entertainment category, the Chinese company Noumena raced away with first place for its MGS Karting app, which is described as a battle and racing game hybrid.

OpenBit, from Finland, won in the Messaging category. Its camera application, Photographer Lite, is designed to improve the quality of images and provides zoom and panorama functions.

You can find more info on the winning entries at forum.nokia.com/series60.

Prizes includeed a Nokia 3650 phone, free Nokia support services and the demoing of the applications on Nokia stands at European or Asian trade shows.

Series 60 is described by Nokia as a 'a multi-vendor platform standard for one-handed smartphones that supports application development in MIDP Java, and C++'.
