Apple puts the Mac Pro on sale just a few days before Christmas

Some children may be receiving fewer Christmas presents than they bargain for, after Apple announced it will start selling the Mac Pro from tomorrow.

The Mac Pro is, lest anyone forgets, the credit card-limit busting, cylindrical black beast that Apple unveiled earlier this year.

Prices start at £2,499 inc VAT in the UK, although for that you get a battery of cutting-edge hardware. The entry-level model includes a 3.7GHz quad-core Xeon E5 processor, 12GB of RAM, dual AMD FirePro D300 graphics, and 256GB of PCI-E-based flash storage, along with the six Thunderbolt, four USB 3 and two Gigabit Ethernet ports found on every model of the 10in device.

There's a 3.5GHz six-core Xeon model, with 16GB of RAM, dual FirePro D500 graphics and the same 256GB of flash for £3,299 inc VAT.

Various memory, storage and graphics updates will be available for those who really like to give their boats a good shove.

The thick end of three and a half thousand pounds doesn't buy you a keyboard or mouse, however: as the The Guardian's Charles Arthur spotted, they're not included.

The Mac Pro will be available in store or online tomorrow. The National Debtline can be reached on 0808 808 4000.
