The Polaroid Kids Tablet has been demonstrated at CES 2013 in Las Vegas.

The 7in device has an 800 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, and protective padding on the sides and rear to protect it from mishandling. The device includes a lock switch that prevents children quitting applications or making inputs on the touchscreen, while storage is courtesy of 8GB internal flash memory plus a vacant SD card slot.

A 2-megapixel rear-mounted camera takes care of photographic duties and everything’s powered by a single core 1GHz Cortex-A8 CPU.

The tablet runs Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), but offers access to Polaroid’s own App Shop rather than the unfettered - and uncensored - Google Play store. The App Shop will offer both paid-for and free apps, and offers the ability to filter out paid-for apps to prevent toddlers accidentally running up credit-card bills. A Kids Vids app pulls age-appropriate content from YouTube.

The Kids Tablet is on sale in the US now for $150; there’s no word yet on UK availability.
