Windows 8 launch: as it happened
Posted on 25 Oct 2012 at 16:00
After three release previews and over a year of testing on PCs, laptops and tablets around the world, Microsoft launched Windows 8 at an event in New York.
Steven Sinofsky and Ballmer took their turns on the keynote stage for a presentation that was at times a little wooden and rambling.
PC Pro's Tim Danton was in New York to bring you all the news as it happened.
This page will refresh automatically with the latest post at the top.
With the number of updates to it already, probably news of SP1.....:-)

It's strange...
Nothing regarding Windows 7 on the front of the Samsung.co.uk page and PC World has a little corner dedicated to it. Same with Amazon.
MS Needs to splash out the cash as the iPad Mini will overshadow all of this hard work. :(

A bit dull...
It's like going to the cinema and watching a film when you've just read the plot spoilers... and then realising that the plot spoilers made the film sound more interesting than it actually was.
Just watched the live stream of the launch. Tim is right, the 2 Microsoft Muppets doing the demo really were pretty bad.

Official Google app
A fully featured Google search app with maps, gmail etc has appeared in the store. Looks very slick.

So when I can walk in to a store and have a variety of tablets to play with?
I want 'retina' displays, super fast response, 7-8" and 8-10" and prices starting at £250.

"I’m starting to lose track of the number of times I’ve heard the word magical during this launch." - Probably taking the Michael out of Apple :)
@bigrob14: and what will you 'do' with that retina display with the increased DPI? Go blind if left at the default dpi/resolution or increase the dpi . You might as well of stopped at 1080p.

Grammar
This is a multinational company. That photo shows they have no clue when it comes to grammar or presentation.
Maybe they have already realised that windows 8 is going to fail.
