Chrome overtakes Firefox in browser rankings

Chrome has pipped Firefox to grab second place in the global browser rankings, according to StatCounter.
The analytics firm said Chrome hit 25.7% share, nudging past Firefox's 25.4%. IE still leads with 40.6%.
Chrome had already overtaken Firefox in the UK in July, but still trails Mozilla's browser in the US.
"We can look forward to a fascinating battle between Microsoft and Google as the pace of growth of Chrome suggests that it will become a real rival to Internet Explorer globally," said StatCounter CEO Aodhan Cullen.
"Our stats measure actual browser usage, not downloads, so while Chrome has been highly effective in ensuring downloads our stats show that people are actually using it to access the web also," Cullen added.
Rival web stats firm Net Applications still ranks Chrome third globally, showing Google's browser gained half a point last month to 18.2%, while Firefox slid slightly to 22.14%. IE held flat last month at 52.6%.

Chrome works
It's why I use it

stupid IE
I do not know why people are still using the slow IE. I like both Mozilla and Chrome but IE no. Chrome is the fastest but mozilla until now seems the most adaptable one.

RoboForm
I like both Firefox and Chrome. IE is dead to me. Firefox is still the main browser on all my PCs, mainly because of much better RoboForm integration.

@ABDALMONEM
Because in the real world, a lot of people in companies cannot choose to use another browser (because they often have very locked down PCs), and a lot of "normal" computer users wouldn't know how to install another one. (Readers of this website are unlikely to be typical of "normal" computer users.)

I like Chrome's speed but it sure does like to hog memory, and shockwave consistently crashes.

Opera is good
Faster than Chrome, more configurable, but it also hogs memory.

I hate Chrome
It ticks me off the way it piggy backs onto your system on the back of other software just because I missed ticking a box. Any software that has to do this gets binned asap,If can't stand on its own merit its not much good it it?

@ABDALMONEM
What version of IE are you talking about? I have IE9, Chrome and Firefox on this PC and there's nothing to choose between them speed wise. I happen to use IE9 most of the time but when I do use Chrome or Firefox, I don't think wow this is fast - there's so little difference between the big browsers now its hardly worth bothering about.

@halsteadk
I think you are right because a lot of people I see they just rely on what is available on the PC and they do not care or they cannot choose.

@rjp2000
I think you are using strong PC. I used IE8 or 9 but my PC 1.73 dual core so I can feel the difference. More clear when using my netbook (just 1GHz normal) where the difference even very clear between chrome and firefox. So ====> I use firefox on the labtop and chrome on the netbook.

Browser usage not downloads explains how
This presumably includes all the chrome browsers on Android devices then. Because although I am not a great fan of either IE or Firefox I prefer them over Chrome. On another note entirely, reading this site in the latest build of IE9 on Vista and there is a big advert round the page telling me to install IE9 because my browser is out of date. The same advert also appears in FF8 on Linux Mint.

Firefox is ummm
Firefox recently (since 4.0) has been an absolute shambles..Its sooo clunky and slow, but I then realised I could change a few settings like pipelining etc...and its amazing again.
The new IE is significantly better than before, its light and fast. I doubt Im ever gonna use Chrome but its firefox always.

It's all a matter of perception.
I have Chrome, FF, IE9 and Opera browsers on my dual core pc. Non appears faster than any other. It simply depends on your own add-ons. Even the benchmarks choose a different one as the fastest. The last time I read IE9/10 scored best but that could have changed.
