Intel slashes price of mobile processors

Intel has cut its pricing for notebook processors - Mobile Pentium 4, Mobile Pentium III and Mobile Celeron Processors are all affected.

The move is described by the company as a routine price adjustment and a company spokesperson denied it was related to the release (in the first half of this year) of Centrino technology This is Intel's big initiative in redesigning mobile processors.

Leading the way in the latest cuts is the Mobile Pentium 4. The top-of-the range 2.2GHz, previously costing $562, has been cut by 38 per cent to $348. Similarly, the 2GHz version has been cut 31 per cent to $241, the 1.9GHz 18 per cent to $198 and the 1.8GHz 14 per cent to $171. Pricing for the 1.7GHz version remains unchanged.

Mobile Pentium III processors see a 24 per cent cut for the top of the range 1GHz version, from $316 down to $241. The 933MHz version drops 198 per cent to $241.

Finally, there are the Mobile Celeron processors, designed for the budget end of the notebook market. There are 10 per cent, 16 per cent and 14 per cent cuts for the fastest three versions, the 1.8, 1.7 and 1.6GHz models. These are now priced at $134, $112 and $96, respectively.
