Mobotap has released its premium Dolphin browser for free, following a $10 million investment from renowned venture capital group Sequioa Capital.
Dolphin was previously offered in two forms: a free ad-supported browser and a $4.99 ad-free version. The ad-supported version has now been scrapped, along with the fee for the premium browser.
Mobotap's CEO Yongzhi Yang said the company “will use the new funds for rapid product development” as it aims for Dolphin to expand “into new market segments.”
The browser has recorded more than eight million downloads, and an average score of 4.5 stars from 90,000 reviews on the Android Market. The browser's main draw is its customisable gesture-based navigation. You can record macros and link them to a gesture, such as opening Facebook by drawing an 'f' on the screen.
The announcement was packaged with the release of version 6 of the browser. The latest version offers a new webzine feature, which displays tabbed pages as thumbnails that can be browsed flip-book style.
Webzine is read it later and ireader rolled into one
The latest version of Dolphin HD is so good I may never boot up Opera Mini again.
Make sure you give wWebzine a whirl (pcpro has to find its way onto the selection).
