Google is today expected to unveil a major revamp of its search engine that will deliver results as you type.
The company has invited the press to "get an inside look at the evolution of Google search" at an event being held in San Francisco later today.
Meanwhile, the Google doodle has been transformed into a monochrome logo that fills with colour as you begin to type search queries, providing a major hint as to what Google plans to announce.
It was first revealed last month that Google was testing live (or streaming) search. In a similar vein to the way the site already predicts keyword as you type, live search will deliver results before you hit the enter key, with results changing dynamically as you type.
The company has been testing live search in beta tests for the past month or so, but now appears ready to bring it to the public.
The live search service is another indication that Google is attempting to innovate its way past rivals such as Microsoft Bing, which has been closing ground in terms of market share and features in recent months.
Last month, Google incorporated real-time search results into the main search engine, delivering near-instant updates from Twitter and other social networks.
