Microsoft has confirmed it will release the beta for Internet Explorer 9 at an event in San Francisco on 15 September.
The software giant has released four platform previews of its next browser, so there shouldn't be many surprises in the beta.
James Pratt, IE senior product manager, said the platform previews have been downloaded 2.5 million times.
"Developers are already working hard on some amazing new web experiences enabled by Internet Explorer 9," Pratt said on the Windows blog. "On September 15th we’ll be able to show you a more beautiful web that feels native on Windows."
The last preview, released last week, showed off the IE9's "Psychedelic Browsing", demonstrating how the new Internet Explorer handles the HTML5 canvas tag and fast-moving graphics. Microsoft also touted the browser's faster speeds and 95/100 score on the Acid3 web standards test.

meh...
I personally believe it is stupid of Microsoft not to support XP its as though they are saying "No, you havent gave us any of you money recently, therefore you can't use it" :/

Re: meh...
I think it's fair enough that it's not available for XP as it's out of MS Support and there is a lot more they can develop and build off of the NT6.x base for features and security. I think IE8 was let down by being tied to XP...
Also MS aren't a charity, they are a company who need people to buy products to stay in business, can you really moan that the OS that came with a computer 9 years ago isn't getting the latest browser developed for it?

Re: meh
Microsoft made it clear in 2002, when support for new features in XP would stop... It can hardly come as a shock, that a product which is no longer actively supported (XP SP3 is now in Security Only updates, all prior versions are only supported at user cost (if you find a bug and need it fixed, but are unwilling to move to SP3, Vista SP2 or Windows 7, you will have to pay for the fix, for your machines).
Internet Explorer 9 is a new piece of software, not a security update, so it falls outside the criteria for inclusion with XP SP3.

Just think of the poor people stuck with XP and IE6
I do hope they bring out a version that runs on a USB stick
With the NHS linked with XP and IE6 - they will not change uptill 2014 - my thinking they will never due to cut backs and there mind set
there more and more web site and programes that are not working now let alone in the furture with IE6 - so more and more staff need a work around.
Just a throught - when the last goverment did an revew of IT in the NHS most computers where 5 years old with some 20+ years old - I see the NHS going back to these times as well as there ICT thinking
