Orange trials HD for clearer calls

Orange is trialling high definition voice technology to boost clarity between callers.
The trial has already kicked off in Bristol, Reading and Southampton, and if everything goes to plan, the HD Voice system will roll out across the UK on Orange's mobile network by the end of this summer.
Orange claimed the service "virtually eliminates" distance between callers, making them sound like they're in the same room.
The improvement in sound quality is achieved without touching the network, but by using a wider bandwidth of 50-7000Hz, compared to the standard 300-3400Hz, as well as a new Wideband Adaptive Multi-Rate speech codec, Orange said.
This isn't the mobile operator's first try at HD Voice. The service has already rolled out in Moldova.

Moldova?
That well known hot bed of leading edge technology? Good grief.

Sorry - I had to check the date!
The Moldova reference had me rushing for my Calendar. If this works it will be great, more natural voice sounds will make a huge difference, just wait and see.

Huge Difference and actually quite freaky
I've experienced HD voice and must say it makes a huge difference. It's quite freaky as you can hear minute details such as people breathing!

Surely the only people able to make use of this expanded audio spectrum will be texting each other anyway?
