iPad sales "double" that of Macs

The Apple iPad is selling almost twice as well as Mac computers, according to new figures.
RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky claims the tablet is exceeding all expectations in the US, with sales almost reaching iPhone levels.
"Checks indicate that US iPad sales remain strong post-launch, driven by rising consumer visibility to iPad’s user experience, sustained PR/word-of-mouth marketing, 3G iPad launch, and broadening iPad apps/content," Abramsky wrote in a research note.
Apple iPad in-depth
Chris Brennan on the iPad magazine reading experience"We believe Apple is now selling >200k iPads/week, greater than US Macs (est. 110k Macs/week) and just below US iPhone 3GS first quart (246k/week)."
Such healthy figures would certainly explain why Apple decided to delay the international launch of the iPad to meet demand in the US. The iPad will go on sale on this country next Friday, although Apple has already been forced to push back delivery dates for customers ordering via its website.
The healthy launch figures have prompted Abramsky to raise his forecast of global iPad sales from five to eight million in 2010.

And the bad news..?
I'm surprised there have been no negative comments so far!
I'll admit to being biased as I have a US imported iPad. It really is a lovely device, and I've hardly used my PC since. My wife took to it instantly too. This is the first Apple product I've owned since a Newton MessagePad. I earn my living as a trainer in Microsoft server technologies, so I'm hardly an Apple fanboy!
I'm sure the iPad will be a big hit in the UK too. Yes, it's expensive, but it's a completely different computing experience to anything else of a similar price.

A bargain (at half the price)!
It's a big-screen iPod.
If you want an iPod with a big screen, then it's dandy. Otherwise its just a device without any real application.
If enough of them sell someone (very ingenious) will come up with a "must have" app for them and that will spring-board the device, but I'm not holding my breath.
The general consensus of people who played with one at Gadget Show Live on the T3 stand was "Oooh look, mmm, oh. Nah!"
