UK iPad launch delayed

High demand for the iPad in the US has prompted Apple to delay the international release by a month.
“Demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks,” a statement from Apple said. “We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.”
The iPad will now be launched at the end of May, with Apple expecting to announce UK pricing and begin taking pre-orders on 10 May.
The ambiguity surrounding iPad’s international launch is reminiscent of the 2007 iPhone launch, where the UK release date was also unconfirmed for several months. The phone finally launched in Europe five months after the US.
What did we think?
The definitive iPad reviewApple claims more than half a million iPads have already been shipped throughout the States.
Despite its success, the iPad has suffered from numerous complaints over its Wi-Fi connectivity, with users saying the connection often drops out and does not reconnect. Apple has also been attacked for banning Flash on the device, despite web browsing being one of the iPad’s key features.
The hotly anticipated tablet was announced in January, after months of speculation that Apple would attempt to revitalise the market. It runs on the same OS as Apple’s iPhone, and is expected to receive the OS 4 update later this year.
Apple’s launch has prompted a number of other firms to release their own tablets. HP, Dell, Google and Nokia are all either confirmed or rumoured to be launching their own slates.
From around the web
Also gives Apple more time to sign-up publishers. I haven't seen any media shouting about the iPad in this country.

I saw one at the Gadget Show Live
And I can't say I was impressed. My brother liked the screen, but as stated above, you won't get any written media to squint at for some time.
So is it worth paying (probably £400) for a big iPod that you have to re-buy all your iPod games for...?

More marketing spin?
Sounds like spin to me. I listened to an American podcast the other day and the guy was saying that the interesting thing about the iPad is that it hasn't sold out (unlike the iPhone) and that he could go down to his local store and buy any number he wanted.

The pre-orders have already been decided by people who are thinking of ordering. What is the point of setting an arbitrary date for placing orders? I suppose they have been overwhelmed with orders (NOT pre-orders) from the US. Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, use the correct terminolgy regarding orders!

sPin from iBBC
"When the iPad launched in the US, 300,000 units were sold on its first day.
Apple claims it delivered 500,000 in the first week of its release."
Apple claims 300,000 on first day and it took another 6 days to sell 200,000 more - proves it's spinning!
but the who believes the BBC?
No, most people believe in rotten fruity iDiotic toys :)

There were talks that they may have to delay the launch in the US or that there would be short supply. I think this is just an overflow of this problem. I've heard shops are still stocked over there too

bullshit
I suspect apple want to give it another month or so to see whether it's worth releasing it in this country due to poor sales in America and lack of demand in this country. Seems like Apple have finally got it wrong, apart from the cube, newton and the years 85 to 98.
