Adobe launches Creative Suite 5: full reviews

Adobe Creative Suite 5 launch

Adobe today updated its Creative Suite software to version 5, meaning new editions of Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro and all its other flagship creative applications.

One of the most heralded additions is Photoshop's Content-Aware Fill, which allows designers to lasso an area - say a packet of crisps on the ground - and remove an offending object at the touch of a button. See it in action below.

All the core applications have seen a massive update, and almost without exception they've impressed our reviewers. Adobe Photoshop CS5 wins a Recommended award, Dreamweaver a place on our A List, and Premiere Pro is now our clear choice for Windows-based video professionals.

Adobe InDesign CS5 has a much clearer focus on outputting pages not just to print but also to portable devices such as smartphones - even if Apple has stolen much of its thunder by banning Flash from the iPhone and iPad.

Not all the programs walk away with honours, however. Our reviewer considered Photoshop Extended CS5 to be "just too awkward and expensive to be practical", while OnLocation is starting to look "outmoded".

Click on the list of reviews, right, to see our verdict on each of the apps, while for our buying decision on which suite to buy see our verdict on Adobe Creative Suite as a whole.

Adobe pricing

I realise this is a very well flogged dead horse, but...

US: Upgrades from $599
UK: Upgrades from £606.30

So now it's not just swap the $ for a £, it's increase the figure at the same time.

I particularly like the extra 30p as if there is some actual rational price calculation.

I always want to like Adobe, but I hate them for this.

Username error

@Deathtaker27 - we've now sorted out this problem. There was an error with the embed code for the video player, but that's now solved.

Video player

Like the video, hope to see more of these from the team in future. But what happened at 0:52?! Lol!

On a serious note, could you increase the resolution next time please? I know you have to keep the bandwidth down and the file above is 2MB in size, a slight increase for an article that is based on image quality would be nice, especially given that the option to play in full screen is present. Thanks.
