O2 has launched new, cheaper tariffs for the iPhone.

The cheapest iPhone tariff, which gives 100 minutes and unlimited texts and data, has been cut from £30 to £25 a month.

O2’s previous high-end iPhone deal, which offered unlimited calls, texts, data and Wi-Fi for £60 a month has also been lowered to £45.

The network will also be rolling out SIM-only options for iPhone customers, which start from £15-a-month for 300 minutes, unlimited texts, data and Wi-Fi on a year-long contract. The same SIM-only deal will be available for £20-a-month on a 30-day rolling contract.

Customers’ habits are changing, with more texts being sent and data being used than ever before

O2's hand may have been forced by cheaper monthly tariffs on offer from rivals such as Tesco Mobile and Vodafone, which recently broke O2's exclusive grip on the iPhone.

However, O2 insists it's merely reacting to customers' wonts. “Customers’ habits are changing, with more texts being sent and data being used than ever before," said Sally Cowdry, O2’s marketing director. "We have listened to our customers and introduced a range of new tariffs with unlimited calls, texts and data offering real value for money."

“We have also introduced a new £2 per day Internet Tethering Bolt On as we know our iPhone customers want to snack when they are using their iPhone as a modem."

Are they cheaper?

18 month £35 gets you 300 minutes and unlimited texts. When I bought my 3G £35 got you 600 min and 500 texts. £40. Similar reduction on £45 contract - was 1200 min now only 900!
