McAfee adds online backup to security suite

McAfee is adding online backup to its premium package, in what’s fast becoming a standard feature in security suites.

The McAfee Total Protection 2010 suite offers either 1GB or 2GB of online storage, which is priced at £50 and £60 per year (inc VAT) respectively.

The addition of online backup brings the service into line with rivals such as Norton 360, which included the feature in its premium package from September last year.

However, the 2GB of storage available from the security firms falls a long way short of the “unlimited” storage on offer from dedicated online backup services such as the A Listed Carbonite, although that costs £30 a year by itself.

Internet security has recently been thrust back into the limelight as major companies such as Adobe and Google fell victim to co-ordinated attacks from Chinese hackers.

Security firm Sophos said in its 2010 Threat Report earlier this month that social networking sites represented the biggest cause for concern, with 60% of businesses worried about using Facebook and 17% apprehensive about Twitter.
