Apple has released a new version of the iPhone firmware, with a series of bug fixes and security updates.
The minor upgrade includes improvements to the accuracy of the iPhone 3GS's battery level indicator and fixes issues with some third-party applications refusing to launch.
The patch also includes five security updates, including a refresh of the iPhone's CoreAudio software that prevents "maliciously crafted" MP4 files crashing the phone or running arbitrary code.
The new firmware is 228MB in size and is being distributed via the regular iTunes update process.
Apple is expected to deliver a more significant update to the iPhone firmware to coincide with the launch of the iPad in the next few weeks.
The iPhone 3.2 software will likely include support for apps that are designed to dynamically adjust the screen size to cope with both the iPhone and the 9.7in screen of the iPad.
From around the web
lets not forget the Nexus One got an update too! :D
Google officially released and update for the N1 which gives it native mutlitouch features in Google maps, browser, and photo viewer. It also includes Google Goggles for image searches via the N1's camera.
Weirdly enough news of this first came to my knowledge from Engadget..

The iPhone needs flash! Still! :-)
What on earth has the Nexus 1 info got to do with the iPhone update story?
By robgt1 on 3 Feb 2010 ![]()
Er...
@robgt1
Exactly was I was thinking!

@robgt1 - seeming as PCPro were quick to break news about iPhone 3.1.3 - I thought they should cover the software update for the N1. As you can see there are significant updates especially for those who seem to brush it off for its lack of multitouch..

PCPro seem to becoming @ppple fans boys, I have found their coverage of the nxs1 to be unexpectly negative. They were really critical of the lack of multitouch.

@softfun - I thought that too.. They still haven't covered the N1 software update.
