Is the Dell Mini 5, an Android-powered 5in "entertainment" slate, going to take the world by storm when it's released later this year? Should you be saving the pounds right now to buy one? Find out as we ask Dell for a whistlestop video tour of the new device at CES.
From around the web
Interesting. It's like a new take on the early noughties Pocket PC without the stylus (or Windows CE!). If they're cheap enough, and the Apps are there, I can see this type of device really denting ipod Touch and even iPhone sales.

Er....it's not a phone so why would anyone buy one in place of an iphone??? Assuming it's got a 3.5mm earphone connection then yes it might hurt some ipod sales but lets face it your typical ipod user doesn't want anything this big in their pocket. You might as well carry a tape cassette player, heck they're smaller!
Slate PC's in my opinion need to be bigger for them to be of any real use, 5 inch models are pointless, they're to big to be used like a phone, ipod, camera etc... and just not as good. Yet they're too small to be of any real use, when they hit 10" inch or more (preferably A4 or even A3 size), then people can genuinely review documents on them, such as cad drawings etc... The is the first generation, I will wait for the second or third.

Dell Mini 5 internet slate
At last could this be a true replacement for my trusty Tungsten T?
My company does not supply me with a smart phone. When forced to make phone calls when in meetings or out in public with this device on the desk or my lap and a phone to my ear I can access (and always see) my applications whilst still talking quietly directly into a mouthpiece and without everyone else hearing any response through a speaker - bliss.

Looks like a play on the Archos 5
It looks like a re-badged Archos 5, which would be awesome if Dell took over support/development of the device.

Bedside Device
This is clearly a badside device.
Apart from acting as an alarm clock you will be able to use it to listen to Book At Bedtime, catch up on the TV shows you missed, play music, text your kids asking why they aren't home yet, read your e-books, play Sudoku, or remote-control your central heating. Just a few ideas.
You may take it with you when you stay in a hotel room, but this will be the mothership. When you are out and about you will take your regular phone instead.
