Windows 7 overtakes Vista on PCPro.co.uk

The number of visitors to our website using Windows 7 has surpassed those running Vista for the first time.
The milestone was passed on Monday, when 16.91% of the visitors to PCPro.co.uk used Windows 7 machines, compared to 16.82% running Vista. The feat was repeated yesterday, when 14.54% showed up with Windows 7 and only 13.68% arrived using Vista PCs.
Although PC Pro's tech-savvy audience can hardly be considered representative of the general public, the figures suggest that Windows 7 is proving hugely popular among early adopters.
The operating system only went on sale on 22 October, although it should be noted that even on launch day, almost 10% of PC Pro's visitors were already running the free beta version of Windows 7. Vista had a 21% share of the PCPro audience on Windows 7 launch day.
Windows 7 still has a long way to go before it catches up with Windows XP. As of yesterday, the ageing operating system still commanded more than 46% of our audience.
Top five operating systems used to visit PC Pro on 15 December:
1. Windows XP 46.6%
2. Windows 7 14.5%
3. Windows Vista 13.7%
4. Mac OS X 9.1%
5. Linux 7.2%
From around the web
linux closing in?
Is the real story here that Linux is up to 7.2%, closing in on osX.
Or does the linux score include android?

breakdown?
Can you also tell the breakdown of Mac OS X and Linux?
E.g what % of Mac OS are on the new Snow Leopard,
Are the new Macs really flying of the shelves?
Interesting to see if the % of Windows 7 and Snow Leopard operating systems before and
after Xmas.

“One viewer complained “
With Vista and Windows 7 it's very quick and easy to e-mail an attachment.
Just use the 'send to e-mail' option. I'm sure most 5 year old boys could do it ( plus some girls too, however boys more often grasp tech quicker at a young age).
“One viewer complained “
I understood the advertising watchdog did not consider any complaint until enough complaints are received to justify them to bother to look into the complaint.

Meh
"E.g what % of Mac OS are on the new Snow Leopard,
Are the new Macs really flying of the shelves?
"
I dont think PC Pro is a good site for judging online OS useage. It a too focused site, you need a more generic website such as the beeb.

That's closer to the real figures although I understand that Windows 7 has since climbed to over 5% and Mac share has dropped .15%

Where's Windows 95 gone?
So Barry, what's happened to Windows 95? Last time you published stats, you claimed that more users were still using W95 than Linux, or MAC OSX or W98/Me!!

OSX visits not representative of market
Just a thought. I used to be a PC user and regularly visited your web site. Since moving to OSX, my visits to your site have reduced as your magazine primarily showcases PCs.
