Packard Bell is recalling four models of its EasyNote laptop range, after warning their batteries may catch fire.

The recall specifically affects laptops manufactured in Europe between July and December 2007. This was the period when laptop manufacturers worldwide were recalling millions of batteries and laptops because of overheating cells.

"The battery cells contained in the affected units may experience internal short circuits which can potentially cause the cells to overheating and/or catch fire," Packard Bell claims in a statement. "There is no risk of electrocution to the user. There have been no reports of injuries."

The four models affected are the EasyNote MX36, MX37, MX51 and MX52. The company is urging owners of these models to visit the Packard Bell website or call the company's service line on 0871 467 0008 to determine if their laptop is included in the recall.

The company warns users to remove the battery and power the laptop via the mains as a precaution.
