O2 sweetens iPhone package with free broadband

O2 has sweetened its iPhone tethering package by throwing in free broadband access.
The tethering package allows iPhone customers to use their phone as a 3G modem, and costs £9.79 a month for 3GB data. However, customers who sign up by 31 December will also receive O2's 8Mbits/sec broadband package completely free.
Alternatively, should customers want a faster broadband service, O2 will discount the value of the standard deal (£7.34 per month) from the cost.
O2’s Standard package usually costs £7.34 a month, while the Premium and Pro packages cost £9.79 and £17.13 a month respectively.
The deal arrives as O2's exclusive iPhone deal with Apple comes to an end, and is a clear attempt to hold onto customers possibly attracted by Orange's greater 3G coverage.
From around the web
isnt it more to do with orange already giving its mobile customers on most packages free basic home broadband?

Tethering? Is this an Apple-ism? I use my W960i phone as a (3g) modem a lot on Orange and get 250Mb/mo for £7.50. The semi-rolling allowance can be used for web, wap, email or just data for modem. I realise now that isn't the 'browsing' you get included in the iPhone plans on either network. What a rip-off.

Waiting for 3
250Mb/mo for £7.50 - what a rip-off. I get 1Gb for £5 a month from Three using mobile dongle - half price as I'm an existing customer.
I hope Three comes up with a decent package for the iphone.
