For our Environmental Innovator of the Year Award, we've teamed up with SustainIT, a non-profit research centre that conducts research on, and provides best practice examples of, using technology for sustainable development.

Here are this year's winners:

Business Software of the Year - VMware vSphere 4

The vSphere cloud-computing operating system is the ideal way to reduce server costs at a time when IT managers are increasingly feeling the pinch on their budgets. The software is single-handedly responsible for filling skips with inefficient, old server equipment, according to our Real World editors.

Business Hardware of the Year - Apple iPhone 3GS

Version 3 of the iPhone OS coupled with Apple's revamped hardware has finally made the iPhone a highly desirable piece of business kit. Beefed-up performance, enterprise-class email and support for third-party GPS software have all contributed to making the iPhone 3GS far more than an executive toy.

Business Service of the Year - Cloudmark Server Edition

Businesses looking to keep their email free of spam should look no further than Cloudmark Server Edition. This lightweight software "just works, and works well," according to PC Pro's Real World security expert.

Environmental Innovator of the Year - Sony Ericsson

As reflected in its fine showings in Greenpeace’s latest Greener Electronics survey, Sony Ericsson is taking genuine steps to reduce the environmental impact of its products. Indeed, compared to many other companies that PC Pro has spoken to, "being green" appears to be at the heart of Sony Ericsson's strategy, rather than been just a token gesture.

Technology Innovator of the Year - Google

Google claims the innovator crown for not only shaking up the browser market with the highly polished and blisteringly quick Chrome, but also for giving Apple some much needed competition with the launch of its Android phone OS.
