Microsoft has confirmed that the Power Pack 3 update for Windows Home Server will not be released before Windows 7, as it had originally hoped.
Power Pack 3 has been designed to bring Windows 7 compatibility and features to Windows Home Server, including tighter integration of libraries and the ability to archive media content such as television shows through Windows Media Centre.
The team behind the update had intended to launch Power Pack 3 before 22 October - the launch date for Windows 7. However, they now claim it needs more time to bake.
"Our top priority is to ensure the absolute highest level of product quality, and to this end, we will continue with additional testing of the software," Microsoft noted on the Windows Home Server blog.
"As with past software releases, our team will not ship the official final release of Power Pack 3 until the community has validated our work. We expect to deliver before the end of the year," it concludes.
The post was vague about reasons for the delay though it did note that Windows 7 testing had thrown up a number of problems, including restoring Windows 7 images from Windows Home Server, and an inability to wake Windows 7 PCs for scheduled backups.
From around the web
Not really relevant in this country, I wouldn't have thought - it is pretty much impossible to get a Windows Home Server now - most of those who formerly supplied them have stopped selling them (most notably HP - although they are still available on HP's US site).
