Yahoo is opening its homepage to apps developers, the company has announced.
Apps will be developed through Yahoo's Application Platform, but instead of being relegated to the customisable My Yahoo profile page, as they were previously, apps can now be integrated into the Yahoo homepage, or displayed in the homepage gallery.
Any developer will be able to craft apps for the homepage, though they will need to meet Yahoo's terms of service and be validated by the company.
Yahoo claims to be currently offering 400 apps to users, which include games, links to shopping sites, blogging tools and news aggregators.
"We're looking to you to help us build the next big thing on Yahoo, and in turn we'll shower you with traffic and users," the company writes on its YAP site. The company claims to get over 330 million unique visitors per month worldwide on its homepage.
"We're working on an array of additional developer monetisation opportunities — these will be available soon," the company said in a blog post.
