HTC Tattoo hits smartphone market

HTC Tattoo

HTC has unveiled its latest Android-based handset, dubbed Tattoo.

The name isn't simply intended to add street cred to the smartphone. HTC is promising the device will deliver "broad personalisation to the masses" by allowing users to choose "all aspects of the phone from its hardware to its applications and content."

Of course, given the presence of Android's marketplace it isn't surprising to hear that users will be able to choose their own apps, however, the company is also claiming people will be able to design their own covers - though we think the standard slate grey actually looks rather smart.

Quite how the company is planning to allow people to choose their own hardware remains a mystery. The company has already released a spec list, which suggests the ability to upgrade the 3.2 megapixel camera to something a bit beefier is off the menu. We've asked HTC to clarify, but hadn't heard back at the time of writing.

Elsewhere, the Tattoo features a 2.8in touchscreen display and connectivity is handled by the 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and 7.2Mbits/sec 3G connection. There's also GPS and the increasingly popular digital compass, currently impressing on the iPhone 3GS.

The Tattoo will go on sale in the UK next month priced at around £320.

Surely this should read 'digital compass already impressing on htc's other android based phones'.....?

This could technically turn into my perfect phone. I love HTC phones but recently the lack of flash hd and low ram and processing grunt have annoyed me. If being able to customise allows me to do this then I am in.
