Spotify's iPhone app has made its long-awaited debut on the iTunes App Store.

The Spotify app allows users to stream six million tracks to their iPhone or iPod touch over a Wi-Fi or 3G connection. It will also allow people to download tracks for 30 days, offering access to their music even when there's no internet connection.

In order to access the service users will need a Premium account costing £10 a month, though the app itself is free.

"We've worked hard to bring you the same great Spotify experience you're already familiar with to your phone," says Spotify spokesman Andres Sehr in a blog post.

"The mobile apps will allow you to take the entire Spotify catalogue and put it in your pocket. You can use our 'offline mode' to make playlists available at all times, even when no connection is available, perfect for that ride on the Tube or long flight across the Atlantic," he concludes.

The company has also launched an official app on Android. The company says the two are identical in terms of functionality.
