Nokia has unveiled details of its first mini-laptop - although the company is at great pains to stress the device is "not a netbook".

The Nokia Booklet 3G appears to conform rigidly to the average netbook spec, with an unspecified Intel Atom processor, 10in screen and wireless options including Wi-Fi and (predictably for Nokia) 3G/HSPA. The device will weigh 1.25kg and will be "slightly more than two centimetres" thin.

However, a spokesman for Nokia insisted the device is "not a netbook". "It's a mini-laptop - it offers a great deal more spec-wise than the average netbook," he told PC Pro.

Quite what these mysterious added features are isn't clear, although Nokia promises to unveil the full technical spec at next week's Nokia World show.

The only unusual feature mentioned so far is assisted GPS (A-GPS), which will allow users to plot their position using the bundled Ovi Maps gadget.

Indeed, Nokia appears to be using the Booklet 3G as vehicle to push people towards even more of its Ovi online services, such as its music store and data synchronisation suite.

Nokia has confirmed the Booklet will be a "Windows device", although it's not clear whether the company will wait until 22 October so that it can pre-load the netbook-friendly Windows 7 on to the device.

Nokia's also remaining tight-lipped on the price, although it seems likely that it will be bundled on contract through the mobile phone channel.

Walks like a duck, talks like a duck, but not a duck?

Nokia are calling it, what, a smart-phone with "enhanced keyboard"??

It's a netbook.

Re Walks like a duck

With this sort of announcement you know what makes this so different: it's the high price!

What do you call an expensive netbook?

I suspect price is what it's all about and Nokia may find this market move a little troublesome.
Netbooks sell for typically

I've seen some details on Engadget though and it does seem quite tasty, but then I fancied the Vaio P.. and I'm not likely yo ever actually buy either.
