Welcome to the all-new PC Pro website.

We’ve redesigned this site from the ground-up to bring you the best IT news, reviews and expert advice on the web.

Here are a few of the new features you’ll find on our site:

UNIQUE REVIEWS FILTER
Reviews filtersOur custom-made reviews filter helps you quickly find the reviews you’re looking for. Simply click on the price, rating or specs labels to swiftly narrow down your search. Matching reviews appear instantly as you add and remove the filters.

The numbers after each label indicate how many reviews are available that match your criteria. You can click multiple labels in each category – click both XP and Vista to see reviews of laptops that use either of the two operating systems, for example.

COMPARE PRODUCTS SIDE-BY-SIDE
Compare reviewsOur new reviews section also allows you to create your own product shortlists, so that you can compare the full specs of products that you’re thinking about buying. Simply click the little tick box alongside your chosen product, and then click the red Compare Products button. You can compare up to 12 products side-by-side.

COMPREHENSIVE REVIEWS
Our review pages have more detail than ever before. Each review now contains a full list of specifications, photo and video galleries, benchmark scores (where applicable) and space for you to add your comments.

STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIALS
TutorialsWant to find out how to install Windows 7 on a virtual hard disk or set up your own eBay store? Head over to our new step-by-step tutorials, which will carefully guide you through the process.

BUSINESS FIRST
No matter what size your business, PC Pro should be your first stop. Our new Enterprise section includes all the latest business reviews and news, plus advice from our Real World Computing experts.

VIDEO LIBRARY

Jaggies!

Like the site redesign. All except for the jaggies on the pointy bits of the navbar. Tut tut. This is 2009, not 1989.

By ktillyer on 11 Aug 2009

Like it - though its gonna take a little gettin' use to - though the change is refreshing :)

TODO

Really like the new design.

TODO:
1/ Fix the News RSS feed. Blog RSS does work.
2/ Print article feature should print the whole article. Currently prints only the current page.

By c6ten on 11 Aug 2009

Thanks for the comments so far

We're looking into the RSS feed/Live bookmarks issue, and the print article.

Thanks.

Comments vs forum

Can't see any problems with the design but do the comments still feed into the forum?

By halsteadk on 11 Aug 2009

Monitoring Feedback

Might I suggest that someone monitor the Forums for feedback re the changes/bugs?
One example: Widget which shows how may are/who is online is missing?

Feeds now working

Let me know if you get any more problems.

Are there no longer 'related links' following articles - or did that disappear sometime ago - pity. I also don't see images in reviews - even clicking on them brings up an empty pop up. (running FF 3.5.3 NoScript disabled)

Where's the podcast

Are the PC Pro team afraid of sharing the podcast with the wider world? On both this site and the old one it doesn't seem to get much in the way of a billing; you can't even find it on the home page!

Welcome to the PC Amateur website!

There have been complaints that your journalism is on the same level as the Daily Mail, now so is your website.
Couldn't you afford a graphic designer to work out grids, fonts &c to look professional?
Sorry, but to me it looks thoroughly down-market.

I am not so sure about the changes, but then these are very new. I expect that it will grow on me.

Picket

It's a refressing change, though it'll take time to get used to. There are bound to be a few teething problems but on the whole a step in the right direction. It's pleasing to see that old British tradition of destructive criticism is still being practiced!

Now with new improved newness

The site seems to cope with text being zoomed in (in Firefox) better than before.

By Lacrobat on 12 Aug 2009

Cramped

Is it just me or does it feel cramped? For example, the articles are in a newspaper column layout, with just as much space used for the additional links on the right hand side. I want to read the story not stare at half a page of links.
How about the use of flexible width web pages? I feel like I'm wasting space viewing it on a 19" screen' let alone anything bigger.
Also what's worse than a light blue on white text? How about a light blue on lighter blue. I'm sure the partially sighted will have issues.
But the articles are black on white - inconsistent.
I do like the general idea and the ability to compare spec's is useful.
But overall it does need some tweaking.
(FF 3.5.2)

More feedback

Thanks again for your continued feedback. Rest assured the podcast hasn't disappeared. It will return in the next day or so.

Broken Chrome, cranky colours, dotty borders & wasted space.

I agree with the note on the unfortunate use of fixed-width columns and the harsh but true comment on the design being rooted in overtaken fashions from the late eighties/early 90s. In addition, the site does not render at all well in Google Chrome. The dotted borders for the news items on the right hand side do not look very nice. There is too much white space. I think the technological advances in the back end (better comparisons between products, etc) could have been integrated with the old layout, and the latter could then have been tweaked a little later on. I know every site needs the occasional refreshing, but the overall feel of these changes is that of playing safe to satisfy many diverse opinions. In other words: a bland, old fashioned, generic free template-based look. Definitely not an exciting place to visit and view any more. Those section tabs are especially off-putting. I'll still come for the sterling quality and expansive breadth of the content, but that is because I know it's there from my past association with the site. Take a hard swallow and try again, guys.

Change is never popular at first

I quite like it. I was never very keen on the old site and much prefer this new one. That said, the third column with just "Search" and "Sign Up" wastes a lot of space. I think it would be better to lose this column and just put these at the top of what is currently the middle column. That would then give more room in the first column for the real content.

How about a mouseover on the mugshots on the Blog pages to tell us who you are and what you do, rather than just the tooltip?

By James_Clark on 12 Aug 2009

netbooks??????????

have you forbotten netbooks?????????? (10 milion sold this year). As much as I like the new look on my desktop pc on my netbook it is almost unusable!!

By sandman652001 on 12 Aug 2009

Well done

Great redesign - easier to read and find content and more in tune with the magazine. I'm a big fan of your podcast too - it led me to subscribe to the mag.

By jdriscoll3 on 12 Aug 2009

Where's the podcast?

OK. I give up. Where's the section of the site for the current and archived podcasts?

By ktillyer on 13 Aug 2009

Tested with Firefox?

Like many I use normally Firefox (3.5.2) and the site does not display properly (as it does in IE)
And whjat happened to the "Labs" ??? Can't find them in FF.
Those of us with wider diplays (22" in my case" would also value better use of the width.
Hey, its still a great website - it just ought to be better!

Podcast

The podcast page is here: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/podcast

We're working on making a permanent archive of the previous pods.

Thanks

Editorial?

Where has the editorial section gone? One of the reasons I come here regularly is to read the Prolog, Idealog, Epilog etc. I can't seem to find them

By big_D on 13 Aug 2009

Daily Mail

With regard to the Daily Mail comments: at least their site uses a grid... come on PC Pro - the new site architecture and reviews are a definite improvement - but stump up some cash and get a proper designer to make the site look good. We're talking grids, improved typography, better use of white space, cleaner graphics and please do get that tabbed nav-bar looking better!

By susweb on 13 Aug 2009

My mistake...

Oops! My comment above is a bit harsh - I just realised that Firefox was remembering the zoom setting from the previous site and so I was viewing it zoomed in 3 levels! A quick ctrl + 0 has reset the site to it's default size and it looks much better. Still room for a few tweaks but definitely an improvement.

By susweb on 13 Aug 2009

All white, so not all right!

The images of the products at the top of the page are visible in IE, but are all all white in FF 3.5.2. The mugshots lower down are visible however. The video box shows a blizzard in a winter scene rather than a notebook computer. Whose idea was it to alienate a large proportion of PC Pro users?

By BornOnTheCusp on 13 Aug 2009

Looking Good in Firefox

Excellent new website. Am using Firefox 3.5.2 & can't say I've noticed any problems.

By emteec on 15 Aug 2009

All right in IE view within Firefox

Further to my previous post, I have dispayed the website in the IE view of FF and it now looks correct! Could be that emtec does not have his browser 'locked down' as much as mine. I have NoScript plugin installed and this causes issues with some sites until I tweak the settings for the page.

By BornOnTheCusp on 15 Aug 2009

Finally, no more ads in the middle of the page!

I really like the new Pc Pro website. The best thing I have found so far is that there are no longer annoying ads appearing in the middle of the news articles, reviews etc. that you are trying to read. This is a big improvement.

Thanks Pc Pro!

News

On the whole I like the new site design.

However, the one thing I really miss (and PCPro's redesign is not alone here) is the News Headlines list that always existed on the right side of the old site, when viewing a News article.

You have 'Most Commented News Stories', 'Latest Blog Posts', 'Latest Reviews', 'Latest Real World Computing', but no 'Latest News' (which I believe should be at the top).

Now, rather infuriatingly, you have to go back to the main page to follow another news story whereas before you could just jump straight to it.

PROfessional in FF?

I can't agree things are ok in FF3.5.2 Most importantly an advert covers the top of the 2nd register page. I had to submit it empty to get a new one on the left column. then of course 3 CAPTCHAs later I could register. Although the page I was taken to only had the text {nocache:2c9f8aa453b518078a722edebf76360f#0} which was really nice and welcoming!
I hope the writers haven't lost their way like the designers have!

By DrMatt on 20 Aug 2009

Doesn't work for me

In reviews, etc. the picture rectangle at the top left of the screen is blank. Clicking on Gallery also shows blank rectangles.
I use Firefox 3.5.2 with adverts switched off.
