More features for less code is Opera's claim for its new browser.
Opera software is emphasising the lightweight nature of its latest browser - Opera 7 for Windows - which is appearing in beta form.
With a new look and a new rendering engine, there is support for tabbed browsing (a la Mozilla), support for multiple or single user accounts, and a Hotlist for managing bookmarks, history data and emails. There are also new email and news clients.
With one eye firmly on the small device market, it also includes Opera's new Small-Screen Rendering (SSR) technology. This lets you see - in your desktop browser - how Web pages would be displayed on a mobile phones or PDAs.
'I am very proud of all our developers who have managed to add a host of new features and improved the standards support, while actually reducing the size of the program,' said Mary Lambert, product line manager desktop, Opera Software. 'We have thoroughly reworked the code from the rendering engine and up, trimming Opera down, while making it noticeably faster.'
