Toshiba announces its first DVD-RW notebook

The Satellite 5200 notebook series comes in two flavours: the 801, which features the DVD-burning drive, and the 701, which features a CD-RW combo. They are priced at £2,499 and £1,999 inc VAT respectively.

Both feature Mobile Pentium 4 chips (2.0Ghz and 1.9Ghz), nVIDIA GeForce4 Go 460 graphics, memory up to 1,024Mb and disks up to 60Gb in size, along with Windows XP Home and Works Suite. The screens are 15in TFTs and their 'Style Bay' gives you room to slot in an extra, battery, disk or optical drive.

Connectivity appears as three USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire, Ethernet, integrated Bluetooth and the option to add in a mini PCI WLAN card (antennae are built-in), plus niceties such as TV-out, a V.92 modem and an SD/MMC card slot.

Rather than the standard touchpad, the 801 features Toshiba's cPad. This is a touch-sensitive 240x160 LCD which is both a secondary display and a more sophisticated navigation area than a touchpad.

The notebooks also come with a remote control for control of DVDs, PowerPoint Presentations and the like.
