6650 world's first 3GPP-approved handset.

The Nokia 6650 is the first WCDMA/GSM protocol supporting phone.

It will work throughout Asia and Europe across wCDMA networks, such as that used by NTT DoCoMo's FOMA 3G service, and will be in shops from the middle of next year.

The phone has a built-in camera and video support. As wCDMA can handle multiple data streams at hundreds of Kilobytes a second, you can start videoing whatever you want to show the person you're calling and speak at the same time.

You can also send video and still images as attachments in a multimedia message to either another phone or email address.

The accompanying software suite for the PC allows you to synchronise your contact list. A Java environment allows you to download new applications straight off the network and the Nokia Wallet provides a secure platform for online transactions.

Connectivity is through USB to a computer, along with infra-red and Bluetooth. The phone weighs 141g and has 7Mb of available memory.

Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Nokia Mobile Phones, said: 'Nokia is well prepared for - and indeed, driving - the technology transition to 3G application platforms and radio
interfaces both in terminals as well as on the infrastructure side. We are working closely with all industry players to ensure both interoperability and a smooth technology take-off.'
