Intel is spinning off the division that makes its LANDesk software products into an independent company.

Intel's Software Products & Services Division has been responsible for producing the LANDesk software, which covers managing desktop and network environments. The LANDesk Management Suite is perhaps its best-known product.

Intel will have a minority holding in the new business, LANDesk Acquisition Corporation, but detailed terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

The CEO of the new company will be Joe Wang, formerly founder and CEO of 20/20 Software and VP of Symantec's Enterprise Administration Division.

'As an independent company, the LANDesk business is positioned to become the leader in desktop and device management for medium and large companies,' says Wang in an official company statement. 'Our commitment to the LANDesk products, customers and channel partners remains a top priority. We plan to make the transition seamless for our customers and partners as we support and grow the LANDesk product line with increased and dedicated resources.'

You can find detailed info on the LANDesk range on Intel's Web site.
