The Radeon 9000 graphics processor will now appear in mobile form...
ATI 's new chip - the Mobility Radeon 9000 - is designed to improve the visuals of apps running on laptops. It includes support for Microsoft's DirectX 8.1 for 3D gaming.
As with the desktop Radeon 9000 and Radeon 9000 PRO visual processors released last month, the new chip features quad-pipe architecture (four parallel pipelines to increase rendering speed), programmable pixel and vertex shaders, multiple display support and FULLSTREAM technology to accelerate video streams.
As well as delivering improved image rending, the processor is designed to help extend laptop battery life - for DVD and 3D applications - via ATI's POWERPLAY power management technology.
The new chip will begin shipping in September.
The new HP will be using the graphics chip in the Compaq Presario 2800T notebook series and expect to see Apple follow suit before too long.
