Twitter has landed two high-profile sports stars in trouble following a series of ill-considered tweets.

A protracted transfer wrangle between Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland led to frustrated striker Darren Bent lashing out on Twitter. Speaking on the account db10thetruth, Bent apparently claimed: "Seriously getting pissed off now. Why can't anything be simple. It's so frustrating hanging round doing j******t."
He went on to vent his fury at club chairman Daniel Levy: "Sunderland are not the problem in the slightest," he tweeted, before adding. "Do I wanna go to Hull City NO? Do I wanna go to Stoke NO? Do I wanna go to Sunderland YES? So stop f*****g around Levy."
Tottenham says it is trying to contact Bent to confirm whether the account and comments are his. The account has now been pulled and Bent could face a heavy fine.
The story follows a similar incident involving Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes who announced on his Twitter account that he'd been dropped hours before the official team announcement.
"Disappointed not to be on the field with the lads today, will be supporting the guys, it's a BIG test match 4 us. Thanks 4 all the support!" He tweeted.
The cricketer blamed his agent for posting the tweet. The Australian Cricket board has confirmed he will face a dressing down for leaking confidential team information.
