Chrome adds support for Themes

Google has enabled themes in the latest developer builds of Chrome.

The developer builds are released nightly, often with untried new features or bug fixes that Google isn't comfortable folding into the stable release.

Build 3.0.195.4 brings the ability to re-skin Chrome with themes, with two samples currently available dubbed Camo and Snowflake.

As it stands users looking to set a theme need to point their browser at its URL and download it, at which point Chrome will automatically set it as the default theme.

However, rooting through Chrome's "options" menu under "personal stuff" reveals a new "Get Themes" button that links off to a themes website. The site is currently empty, but presumably by the time the feature hits the stable release it will be teeming with new themes to tinker with.

Themes build on Google's efforts to bring extensions to Chrome. Extensions allow users to customise their browser with add-ons, and are a large part of Firefox's success. Early sample extensions include a Gmail inbox checker that displays the number of unread messages in your accout.
