Dell claims computer sales are "stabilising"

Dell believes good news may be around the corner for PC makers, as demand for products "stabilises".

The world's second largest PC maker claims it is seeing PC sales level out after almost two years of decline. However, it's expecting the most significant growth to come from netbooks.

Due to the tight margins around these devices, Dell has warned investors that profits are liable to slip, even as sales increase. Speaking in a statement, the company's chief financial officer Brian Gladden also sounded a cautious note on business investment.

"We continue to believe that customers are deferring IT purchases, and that we will see demand return to more typical levels at some point," says Gladden.

Dell predicted that revenue in its second quarter would be slightly higher than its first quarter revenue of $12.3 billion, but offered no concrete numbers. That $12.3 billion figure represented a 23% decline on the previous year.
