Apple to "recall iPod Nanos" over battery problems
Posted on 9 Jul 2009 at 16:24
Apple is reportedly recalling some of its iPod nano devices following claims that the battery is overheating whilst recharging.
The Wall Street Journal claims that the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards alerted Apple to the problems with the nano in June, and suggested that the company undertake a voluntary recall.
The company appears to have heeded the device. "On 7 July, Apple sent a letter saying it will accept the recommendation made by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards," the agency claims in a statement.
The agency has reportedly received four complaints about overheating batteries since December last year. Three of those cases occurred while the device was being charged.
Apple has declined to comment on the reports, according to the Journal.
It's the second time in recent weeks that Apple has been the subject of battery complaints. Last month, some iPhone 3GS owners reported that the device was overheating, although complaints have petered out and PC Pro experienced no such problems with its review model.
