Acer, Asus and HP are among the firms Google has partnered with to bring out devices using its Chrome operating system.

Google has announced the first version of Chrome will be released on netbooks, with devices promised to hit the shelves by the second quarter of next year.

Aside from netbook-makers Acer, Asus and HP, Google claims it is already working with Freescale, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Toshiba - as well as software maker Adobe, which is currently developing a line of online office applications.

Google suggests there may be more firms that have partnered to use Chrome, but one notable absence is Dell which would only say: "Dell constantly assesses new technologies as part of managing our product development process and for consideration in future products."
