- Java - the building continues Borland has announced the availability of JBuilder 7, its Java development software system. The main features of this release are better support for the whole application development lifecycle (there's integration with Borland's collaborative TeamSource platform and its Optimizeit Suite for tuning Java performance) and improved configuration management for customising the build process. - AMD shows off AGP-8x At Computex Taipei 2002, AMD has demonstrated a new graphics standard, AGP-8x, which is based on its upcoming eighth-generation AMD Athlon platform (due to appear at the end of the year). The new AGP-8x technology is designed to increased data throughput and support larger cache sizes. Along with HyperTransport technology and an integrated DDR memory controller, AGP-8x technology is among the design enhancements intended to reduce system bottlenecks.
- Mapping the deep, online Today - officially World Environment Day - has been chosen by the UN to officially launch an online atlas of oceans, which will act as a repository of ocean-related data to help the fight against environmental damage. The BBC reports that the site is described as 'the most ambitious global scientific information collaboration ever online'. The URL to note is www.oceansatlas.org, but the server was down at the time of writing.
