Nokia unveils E72 smartphone

Nokia has unveiled an update to the Nokia E71 smartphone, cunningly named the E72. While the improvements may not be radical, they build on the already impressive E71 which scored five stars when we reviewed it last year.

Gaining only 2g over its predecessor, and maintaining its 10mm thickness, the E72's aluminium body remains svelte. A new optical menu key, similar to those found on Samsung phones, allows easer navigation through the menus in the S60 operating system.

The E71's 3.2mp camera has been bumped up to 5mp, and a standard 3.5mm audio output now allows customers to choose their own headphones.

For large downloads it comes equipped with a 10.2Mbits/sec HSDPA connection, as well as Wi-Fi, and a 4GB microSD card to bulk up the 40MB internal memory.

As well as corporate support for Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler, it also comes with simple to setup webmail support for most common platforms. Perhaps the strangest addition is a built-in torch.

The E72 will go on sale in the third quarter of the year, and is expected to cost around 350 Euros without a contract.
