Spotify unveils Android mobile app
Posted on 28 May 2009 at 09:35
Spotify has demonstrated an early version of its mobile app running on Google's Android operating system.
The most impressive feature of the Spotify mobile app is the "Offline sync" mode that allows you to cache music tracks you want to listen to offline - a feature still not available on the desktop client.
The mobile app can also synch with your desktop Spotify, allowing you to upload saved playlists. Searching the catalogue has also been overhauled with a neat autocomplete feature that suggests potential genres, artists and albums as you type into the search box.
Results are then separated into tabs for artists and albums, making it easier to navigate the results on the tiny screen.
The company has given no firm release date for the mobile app, but says it will be publish further details through its blog.
Spotify has also promised to release an API allowing users to port Spotify to a variety of different devices themselves.
The streaming music service has been wildly succesful since launch, with the company claiming that 40,000 new users are signing up every day.
