Dell has seen its PC sales drop by more than a fifth in the UK, according to new figures released by market watcher IDC.
The troubled PC manufacturer saw year-on-year shipments fall by 22.2% from Q1 2008 to the first quarter of this year.
Despite the steep drop, it retains second place in the UK, behind market leader HP - which also saw unit sales fall by 7.9%.
The big winner was Acer, which recorded sales growth of 17.5% to secure third place in the UK sales charts. Fourth-placed Toshiba also had a good quarter, with unit sales growth of 7.7% year-on-year.
Total PC sales in the UK fell by almost 9% year-on-year, with only consumer laptops/netbooks showing any sales growth.
Desktop PC sales were down by over a fifth, while weak commercial demand for laptops also pushed overall portable sales into a year-on-year decline of 1.3% in the UK.
Top four PC vendors in the UK:
1. HP 23.5% (market share)
2. Dell 21.6%
3. Acer 15.4%
4. Toshiba 9.5%
