Jumpcut officially axed

Yahoo has officially signalled the end of its video-editing website Jumpcut, citing new "prioritisation efforts".

The closure of the website comes as no great surprise. Yahoo all but killed Jumpcut back in December when it quietly stopped accepting uploads to the site and began redirecting users to Flickr instead.

Now the word's come down from on high that the site's days are numbered, with the service slated to close in two months.

"After careful consideration, we will be officially closing the Jumpcut.com site on 15 June, 2009," says a note on the site. "This was a difficult decision to make, but it's part of the ongoing prioritisation efforts at Yahoo."

On the bright side, Yahoo has backtraced on earlier claims that video remixed on the site would be lost: ""Very soon, we'll be releasing a software utility that will allow you to download the movies you created on Jumpcut to your computer. We'll send instructions to the email address on your Jumpcut account when the download utility is available," the company notes.

Yahoo is under huge pressure to cut costs and alongside the closure of Jumpcut is expected to announce a fresh round of job cuts next week.
