Voting begins on Facebook Ts & Cs

Facebook has opened the voting on its revised terms and conditions, which were cobbled together in collaboration with site users.

The revised document is intended to defuse criticism of Facebook's earlier terms and conditions, which appeared to give Facebook a perpetual right to users' content - even after they had cancelled their account.

According to a blog posting, users will have until 23 April to cast their vote on the new Ts & CS, with a binding result requiring 30% of active Facebook users to participate. That's equivalent to 60 million users if Facebook really has surpassed 200 million users, as reports suggest.

"If these new documents are approved, all future changes to the Statement of Rights and Responsibilities will go through the same process of notice and comment, and may be put to a vote if enough people comment," says Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

"Even if these new proposed documents are defeated, we will still find ways to involve you in the governance process; however, this involvement will need to be explicitly stated in a future version of the Terms of Use."
