Nikon unfolds HD DSLR

Nikon has broken the £800 barrier for a DSLR capable of recording 720p HD video, with the release of its D5000.
The 12.3 megapixel camera also has a fold-out 2.7in LCD to allow shooting at awkward angles, as well as a live-view mode, in which photographers can preview the outcome of their shots before pressing the shutter.
Nikon claims a top continuous shooting speed of up to four frames per second and a maximum ISO of 6400.
The D5000's announcement comes just one week after the announcement of the similarly-named Canon 500D. The two are likely to be direct competitors: the D5000 might be the cheaper of the two, but only by £50. And, the Canon has a 15 megapixel sensor to the D5000's 12.3. The Canon has a slight edge in terms of video: it will record at 1080p HD to the Nikon's 720p maximum.
The Nikon D5000 can be yours for £799 inc VAT including Nikon's 18-55mm VR lens.
