Adobe promises to make Facebook Flashier

Adobe and Facebook have teamed up to ease the development of Flash apps on the social-networking site.

The pair have released an open-source programming library that supports all the Facebook APIs.

The duo claim this will encourage developers to create more interactive content for the social-networking site, such as games.

Adobe says the new tools will also make it easier for developers to host apps on their own sites. "You can choose to have your app running on Facebook, you can also choose to build external websites or desktop apps using [Adobe] AIR," claims Andrew Shorten, platform evangelist at Adobe.

"You don't have to worry about authentication of the user [on your own site]," Shorten adds. "You can do that through the Facebook platform."

The ActionScript 3 Client Library is available for free download here.
