Acer recalls melting PCs

Acer is recalling a small quantity of its high-end gaming desktops because of a "burn hazard".

A notice posted by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission claims the "insulation on the computer's internal wiring can become bent or stripped, causing the wires to overheat while the product is in use."

The report states there have been two cases of the Predator-branded PC short-circuiting, leading to melted components and casing. No one has suffered any harm as a result.

The alert claims that both of those overheating incidents took place outside of the US, although a spokesman for Acer UK couldn't confirm if any PCs sold in Britain had been affected at the time of publication.

The company is recalling only 215 units of the Predator PC in the US, while in the UK the company has set up a website to recall and repair affected Predator PCs.
