A new survey claims that UK shoppers prefer to download their music from Amazon than iTunes.
According to the survey, conducted by Strategy Analytics, 26% of those polled cited Amazon as their preferred destination from which to buy digital music, compared to 23% who opted for iTunes.
This is despite Amazon only arriving in the UK market late last year. Indeed, the survey claims Amazon was the preferred brand across all music, video and games downloads, beating out competition from iTunes, Microsoft's MSN and eBay.
"Amazon is still some distance behind Apple's iTunes when it comes to actual market share, but our survey results suggest that Amazon's dominance and brand strength in traditional online retailing put it in a strong position to lead the UK's fast growing premium digital media sector in the years ahead," says Martin Olausson, director of digital media research at Strategy Analytics.
However, it's doubtful iTunes will be too concerned. The data in the survey was only based on 515 people talking about potential purchases, so it has no relation to current market share.
