An Asus executive has confirmed the company is looking to release an Eee PC powered by the Android mobile operating system.
Speaking to Bloomberg, the head of the Asus's Eee PC business, Samson Hu, says the company has put an engineering team to work developing an Android-based netbook.
Hu claims the netbook could see production by the end of the year if early trials are successful.
Equally though, Hu claims Asus will happily drop the product if it turns out Android isn't suited to netbooks, though he claimed this was doubtful describing Android as a "very lean and open platform."
This is not the first time Asus has dipped its toes in the Android pond. The company has already teamed up with Garmin to release co-branded smartphones, and their first products, the Nuvifone M20 and G60, will be available on both Windows Mobile and Android.
