Windows 7 Release Candidate coming 10 April?
Posted on 23 Feb 2009 at 09:12
Reports are suggesting that Microsoft is aiming to unveil the Release Candidate of Windows 7 on 10 April.
The rumour comes courtesy of Neowin which claims to have heard from sources within the company.
If true, it stands in stark contradiction to earlier reports that flagged a Windows 7 Release Candidate as likely by the end of February.
There's no word on what changes will arrive in the Release Candidate, though we know Microsoft is modifying User Account Control to ensure that whenever it is changed the user has to be notified.
This follows criticism from security researchers that Microsoft's attempt to tone down the nagging in Windows 7 had inadvertently left the operating system open to malware.
It was a point Microsoft eventually conceded, promising to address the issues with UAC and offering an apology for the furore on its blog.
The release candidate represents a major milestone on the way to a commercial release, which looks increasingly likely to arrive before the end of the year.
Microsoft has also revealed that the beta provoked over half a million suggestions from testers about fixes and changes to the new operating system.
