Spotify throws open doors

Spotify has dumped the "invite only" barrier from its streaming music service, meaning anybody can sign up for access to millions of songs.

The service has been keeping tabs on user growth with an invite-only subscription method, which meant you had to be invited by a friend to join.

The company says this was intended to ensure everybody received a smooth service, and has warned that should its removal impact users it will consider putting the system back in place.

"We want to make sure that everyone who uses Spotify gets the same fast, uninterrupted experience so providing a stable service is our priority," the company says on its blog.

"If growth happens too fast and it starts affecting quality we may have to re-instate the invitation system, hopefully this won't happen."

Spotify is a current favourite in the PC Pro office with even our ever-cynical news and features editor, Barry Collins, getting excited over on the blogs.
